I have very irregular periods and i need them to get stabilized. I stopped smoking many moons ago. She says now that it's because of my migraines. I just want some medical help. All anyone will tell me is "yeah, your body is screwed up. there's nothing we can do though. just live with it."

If you are on birth control for a few months and have regular periods they can rule many conditions out. When you present to a doctor with multiple symptoms they can rule out what you don't have and that can make it easier to figure out what you do have.

Some migraines are related to a woman's cycle so that is one reason for the pill.

You may want to try a different doctor but don't go unarmed. Go to webmd.com and put in your symptoms and get a list of possible problems to take with you and let your doctor tell you point by point why you don't have those illnesses on the list.

Good luck!

Birth control pills are only contraindicated if you have migraine WITH AURA. If you don't get aura, you should be able to take combined oral contraceptives (e.g., those containing both progesterone and estrogen). Even if you have migraine with aura, you can take progesterone-only pills (minipill).

Smoking while on the pill is only prohibited if you are over 35 or have other risk factors.

Get a second opinion. If another doctor agrees, then your doctor is probably right in her reasons for not wanting to put you on birth control.
Good Luck...
