To retain the pheromones that draw a mate.

Fortunately, soap and water and sometimes a razor draw a mate just as well, if not better ;)

Several very good reasons:

1) It is a sign of sexual maturity. Women know that a man with pubic hair is old enough to have sex and father a child.
2) prevents chafing, so keeps you more comfortable
3) provides warmth in cold weather and helps air circulate to keep you cool in summer.
4) Most important, keeps air circulating to prevent possibly dangerous infections, both fungal and bacterial, which thrive in moist areas with poor air circulation. These infections can also cause foul odors, even if they are not yet established enough to cause a rash.
5) can stimulate the clitoris during sex.

Trimmed hair can allow some air circulation, but the blunt tips can irritate both your skin and your partner's skin. The naturally tapered ends of untrimmed hair are silky and don't poke.

Good question -- why? The changes one goes through during puberty signal the coming of adulthood, when a person becomes reproductive (able to have babies). Nature lets us know when someone is physically ready by showing us these signs. Now, that doesn't mean that we're really ready to have babies emotionally or maturely, but we're able to physically have babies. Now, why do we have pubic hair? There are a couple of reasons: Pubic hair is like a billboard that nature places on our bodies that signals "hey! look over here!" to others with whom we're intimate with. Also, all our hair (no matter where) helps to protect certain parts of our body, regulate body temperature, and/or catch our natural "scent" (called pheromones) that is produced in our sweat to attract others (of course, this "scent" can also repel others if we don't shower often enough!). General body hair, like on our limbs and chest, is probably just a natural leftover from our prehistoric ancestors who were hairy all over to keep them warm!

I actually heard one of its functions is to signal sexual maturity - not sure if that's true or not.
But other than that I believe similar to eye lashes - just in general it keeps stuff away from the sensitive skin etc. I think it also retains or wafts about pheremones. I think it also used to absorb sweat so you didn't get all sweaty there and get fungal infections and stuff.
As to whether we still need it - well we're not roaming around naked in the wilderness any more so it's not as important, but I think it can still actually be healthier than shaving, for the sweat/infection reason mentioned above.

the hair acts like a filter so it keeps important areas ov our bodies from getting infections and stuff like that i think

Well because when you get it, it means physically that we are ready to reproduce. But really, it holds our 'scent' to attract others to be intimate. It protects certain parts of our body, and also regulates body temprature. Sounds funny, but true. Google it. :-)

Depends who you ask,

A creationist would say god put them there.

A evolutionist on the other hand would say it evolved.

Also maybe when before we wore clothes, the less pubic hair a man had, and the colder it is out side, the smaller his penis is (So had few offspring). Seriously.

several reasons. For visual stimulation; As a remnant of when we all wore fur coats in the distantpast, and for cushioning during sex act.

So it can get stuck in our teeth when having a "boxed lunch".

Or, so we can shave it off.

Hope this helps.
