Well I think the answer to your question is two fold.

First is that alcohol is so ingrained into our culture that it's impossible to take it away. The federal government found this out during the prohibition era. They can make it illegal, but since it is so accepted among the country they're going to find a way to it anyway. Speakeasy's and Moonshine distilleries. They learned that they flat out could NOT outlaw alcohol. By doing so they only created more, and worse, crime.

Second is like someone before me said. Taxes. The goverment has been regulating alcohol and tobacco long enough tht they control it. It makes lots of money, but more importantly, they control it rather effectively. I think there are some drugs (like pot) that satisfy the first test, and if the government could control it, regulate it, and profit off of it, it'd be legal too. Most of the others, i.e. coke, lsd, x, and so forth wouldn't become legal because their socal acceptance doesn't outweigh the potential harm.

MJ I am not going to talk about. As to heroin, meth and crack, I can tell you. I have never heard of a social meth head. Just a little taste. Same with most drugs. Have I seen people take a drink and stop? Yes. Also, all of these are addictive, including alcohol. Yet, not nearly all those who drink get addicted. The same is not true for the big three. I have seen the result of the use. Meth is without a doubt the worst. Once addicted few come back.

Well they all can screw you over really easily.. I just got off a year probation for being caught with weed.. And the first thing they made me do was go to an alcohol and drug awareness class.. And in the terms of my probation I wasnt allowed to drink.. Even though I was 21 and was arrested for drugs.. I cant even help you out cause I dont know what the terms of probation for alcohol are..

My theory, anyone can grow drugs (weed) and the government can't tax you so they make it illegal,
They should both be legal. It doesn't make sense.
