I don't know about LA but in the US as a whole it was about $1500 a year which would be like $20000 a year today. During the depression you could get men to work for as little as a dollar a day. In 1938 the federal government passed a minimum wage law, setting the minimum at twenty five cent an hour, or $500 a year for covered workers.
