pick up a kitten flea shampoo from the petstore so I could wash them this evening. He brought Hartz Advanced Care 2-in-1 Rid Flea Cat Shampoo. Is this OK for me to use on the little guys?

FYI, their fleas are not severe but I want to nip this in the bud now before it gets worse.

BTW, I said "babies" because that's what I refer to them as but they're not kits. The younger is 2 1/2 and the older is a little over 3.

Also: I *did* check with the vet this morning and since we have an appt anyway (annual) next monday they suggested that I just bring them in then and simply use a flea shampoo for now.

they have ferret shampoo that is made to get rid of fleas. ferret skin is different than a cats so it may be harmful to use it on the ferrets. FERRETS ARE NOT LIKE CATS. i would advise you to not use cat products on ferrets. PRODUCTS LIKE FRONTLINE, ADVANTIX, ETC. ARE NOT TO BE USED ON OTHER ANIMALS OTHER THAN THE ONE IT IS INTENDED FOR. IT CLEARLY STATES ON THE BOX USE THE PRODUCT ON THAT SPECIFIED ANIMAL ONLY AND DO NOT USE ON OTHER ANIMALS. most pet stores carry ferret flea shampoos and it is not expensive. please, please try that instead. don't treat your ferret with these product, it is very dangerous with the chemicals that are in them. plus if it was intended to be used on ferrets wouldn't they make a product for them. i have looked for it and noboby as of right now makes products like this for ferrets. use the ferret flea dip maybe twice in one week and it should help clear up the problem. worked on mine.

Take this firsthand, I'm still recovering from a flea problem for my ferrets.

Hartz does nothing and is a waste of money. Advantix, Advantage, or Frontline are the good ones, and while the pricetag of 40 or 50 bucks hurts, it fixes the problem, right quick.

If you're looking to nip the flea problem in the bud, take my advice. Get one of the expensive brands. They're expensive and Hartz is cheap for a reason. Those three work.

You want a formula safe enough for cats.

Hartz is crap. It's not going to work. I'd suggest going to the petstore and getting a special ferret shampoo instead, or hit them with a little bit of Frontline spray. The spray won't harm them...just two or three spritzs and rub it in good. Then take care of your home....bomb it, vacuum it, and throw the bag out into the garbage outside.

It would be better if you had a formula specifically made for 'kittens' even if your ferrets are adults. I personally wouldn't take the chance using a heavy duty flea shampoo but that is just me.

The people on Y! answers are awesome. It is so interesting to hear what is on others peoples' minds. It is also fulfilling to answer a question that someone has. It validates all the "stupid, random facts" I've acquired over the years. LOL.

youhae to be careful with babies. you can use front line when they are 8 weeks old. its godo for them and it can be bought on line with carealot.com its most reasonable there. if you spray your place if you have outside spray from homedepot that is all you need to kee them away they come on you and jump to them.
