When you inhale you pull oxygen into your lungs where it exchanges for carbon dioxide from the hemoglobin of your blood. When you exhale, the waste carbon dioxide is expelled. I'm not certian if this is what you are looking for?

Inhalation brings in oxygen for essential chemical reactions in all body cells. Exhalation is a way the body gets rid of acid - by getting rid of CO2 (carbon dioxide).
