Braxton Hicks Contractions: Braxton Hicks contractions, often known as "false labour," will begin to occur irregularly after the 20th week of pregnancy. These contractions generally last for about 30 seconds and help your body to practice and prepare for real labour. As you near the end of your pregnancy, you will notice that your Braxton Hicks contractions last longer and occur more regularly.

yes your stomach gets hard with braxton hicks. the difference between the 2 is one dialates your cervix and the other does not. also active labor contractions get closer together and more painful with each one. you are having braxton hicks probably but just for the record you can have mild contractions that dialate your cervix and then go away. i started dilating a month before i had my son and now i am 36 weeks and i have had contraction on and off that i thought were just braxton hicks but come to find out i am dilated 1 cm. so they are real contractions just some are productive and some are not. but as others have said when you go into active labor you will know it.

Braxton-Hicks contractions are not the contraction that start the labor cycle. The are often referred to as "false contractions." They are basically a tightening of the muscles around the abdomen and occur sporadically and with meaning.

BRAXTON HICKS, IS ONLY A FANCY WAY OF SAYING FALSE LABOR,THEY FEEL LIKE A TIGHTENING IN THE BELLY, JUST LIKE REAL LABOR, ONLY MUCH MILDER, AND THEY ARE NOT CONSISTENT.[YOU CAN'T TIME THEM LIKE REAL LABOR] AT 29 WEEKS PROBABLY NO YOU SHOULD'NT, THEY USUALLY OCCUR IN THE VERY LAST OF PREGNANCY. BEST WISHES TO YOU AND BABY!!!

you have likely had them by 29 weeks, you may not be aware since they are painless. Your uterus will firm up for a few minutes, and then go back to normal. Towards the end of your pregnancy they can get more uncomfortable, but not really painful.
