When I was young I spent so much of my life trying to manage other's impression of me by manufacturing who I wasn't... turns out that who I was/am was actually a lot greater than the manufactured self.
As I aged and developed inner wisdom, this became less and less an issue. No longer needing to perform for others is a major developmental milestone in life, and knowing oneself extremely well also means that one can be the same regardless of who enters and leaves your space. When you are at one with yourself- which can take decades of life experience, self knowledge and excellent soul searching-- you'll be able to wisely, warmly, humanely and humbly be the same no matter where you are and who you're with.
You'll find that the more emotional maturity and resources/ strength you have, the less you're phased by other's behavior, status, intellect or trait.
Hope this helps!

Yes. I can be myself with people that I am totally comfortable with. However, there are people with whom I have to really control myself (like not to laugh too much, not to chat too much, not to simply talk any topic that I want, or even not to answer voluntarily, etc.) and I really hate it because I don't like to pretend and just keep quiet like a stooge. This is the scenario I am in whenever I am in the company of my husband's "rich relatives", because he told me to behave in such manner. Really hate the situation.

Yes.
I have met people who are always serious, never relaxing, laughing, or just simply want to have a good time.
But, on the other hand, I have met people, like myself who enjoys relaxing, laughing, and having a good time.
It's hard being both.
I'd much rather have a good time.
There is too much going on in the world for us to be serious all the time.
As the saying goes, "LAUGH, DANCE, ENJOY!"

Oh yeah I feel like that a lot. I can usually be myself if I've known the person a long time, and if they know me. It depends on who it is.

Yes, some people I just feel more comfortable with...others, I have to wear certain "masks" to be who they want or need me to be at the time.

a thin line to balance but yes most definitely i think that we all walk that line slowly trying to not fall off of it....trying to be real to ourselves is most important adn that often comes in conflict with others...

I try and be myself no matter what but I tend to not be myself when it comes to ignorant mean people.
