Diabetic medicines are used to prevent insulin resistance which is caused by PCOS and insulin resistance is ussually responsible for miscarriage among PCOSers. Actually I'll break it down for you cuz this was the only way I was able yo understand:
PCOS causes insulin resistance.
Insulin resistance causes high blood pressure.
High blood pressure causes hypertension
and hypertension is a common cause of miscarriage
.... so because there is no cure for PCOS, doctors prescribe diabetes medicine to control the root of the problem... insulin resistance. Not only will this greater you chances of completing a pregnancy but it's also a great preventative of diabetes.
No it will not increase your chances of getting diabetes... it does just the opposite. As a matter of fact, without it you have a 70% greater risk developing diabetes. You do yourself a favor and take the meds. The sooner you get it under control, the better your chance of avoiding diabetes AND completing a pregnancy.
As for side effects, the pills may make you a lil sick in the beggining, like diarrrea (fun) and upset stomache, just be sure to eat a meal 10-20 min prior to taking your meds. Also I used an iron suppliment with it and it seemed to do the trick for the diarrea.
GOOD LUCK!!

Hello...I too have Pcos. The doctor made me take prometrium to get my period to start. I take an insulin pill every day! As for side effects...It makes me not want to eat much of anything! I'm not sure if that was the side effects from that or just some stomach virus going around. Other than that I feel fine. Now the Prometrium on the other hand makes me feel drowsy and drunk feeling. I take it a night to help with this. Nobody ever told me that part....I was taking it when I woke up! Which means I just went back to sleep. I also am on Clomid. I haven't had any side effects from this either....maybe a hot flash for a minute! I know with Pcos you chances of heart disease and diabetes increases. So I would imagine that the insulin pill should help with that..not make it worse. I haven't stopped taking them so I don't know what the after effects are. Hope I helped answer your question!

I'm a big baby to but luckily I dont have to take insulin. My cousin, however, is a type 2 diabetic and I used to observe her when she first started using needles. She got diabetes at about age 15, and is now almost 24. She used a tester that looked like a pen, which just pricked her finger and didnt seem to hurt her that much. I think a nurse and her mother at first helped administer the shots and eventually she was able to do it herself. She never liked the idea of them but got used to it by reminding herself that it was necessary for her to live. She had to alternate places to put the needle because she would get sores. The biggest problem I saw was the fact that she had to do this everytime she wanted to eat and try and figure out how much insulin she would need. So I think the shots you will get used to, its the meticulous care and effects on other parts of the body/wounds that can be demanding. Eventually my cousin got an insulin pump inserted in her side and it seems to make her life so much easier. She just dials in the amount she needs and shes good. It looks likea beeper and doesnt seem to bother her. I think the pump would be a good idea if you hate shots, so talk to your doctor. Good Luck.

Don't worry my friend the medicines you are taking is good and does not lead to any side effects. Siphene helps you to get regular periods, and insulin is treatment to prevent you from diabetes which may cause due to PCOS.

You are at an increased risk of Diabetes, Heartdisease and female cancers just having PCOS. The meds they are hoping will decrease those risks. You should also be cutting back on carbs like breads, pastas, sweets and cereals. Carbs are a PCOS suffers worst enemy. It will cause you to gain weight fast and can affect your cycles. I cut back the carbs, lost 40 lbs and ended up with two boys. When i started eating carbs again i gained a lot of weight and my periods started acting weird again.
