Okay, I know this should be in the parenting section, but more people who are my age probobly answer on this thing. And in a way, this sort of goes with the category.... and I know I sound like a whiney little kid when I say this, you don't need to tell me that. And I want honest opinions, not 'you're parents know whats best for you' answers. thank you.
I'm 15. I have a net nanny on my computer. The ONLY things I am allowed to do on the computer is Y! answers, Buzznet(as long as I don't talk to people, which I understand)Purevolume(as long as I don't talk to people) and my mail. And facebook, which is only for people I know and my mom has the password. I also have a V-Chip on my t.v. I cannot watch Much Music (Like mtv, except it actually show's music videos, regularly.) I can only watch AMERICAN rated pg13 movies, not anything with canadian rating of 14A. I live in canada. Continued... (i know its long, sorry =/)

As for music, my dad and stepmom used to look up the lyrics for cd's, and more often then not, I wouldn't be allowed to get the cd. They got tired of looking up lyrics, so they said I could get anything without a parental advisory. They REFUSE to look at lyrics to cd's with parental advisories on them, so if I happen to like a band, and they have a PA on their cd, to bad for me. No one else, that I know, has rules like this still. Majority of them never had rules like this. My mom thinks that these rules are ridicoulous, and constantly mutters 'when she's 20 she's gonna party like it's 1999' when she thinks I'm not listening. Do you think this is fair?

I am a parent of a twelve and a seven year old. I can only say that although it does sound like they are overprotective, perhaps speaking to them on a more mature level will lower the restrictions on you.

Good luck. It isn't easy being a kid, I remember well.

I think your parents are just trying to protect you and you can't blame them for that. I know how hard it is to be a teen, but I also know how hard it is to be a parent. Maybe when you turn 16 you could ask for a little more leeway, then prove to your parents you deserve it by not buying music with graphic lyrics and not watching Much Music continually. Parents trust, but their trust is sacred, don't break it. Believe it or not, they love you and are protecting you from a terrible world and they've been there and done that, I guarantee you.

I understand that you think it's not fair but your parents are only trying to protect you. I think they might be taking it a little bit to far but i do agree with computer nanny I think every teen should have one. But it will get easier when you get a bit older and your parent will eas there restrictions, you just have to patient.

1. No one ever said life was fair.
2. Spend more time concentrating on the positive things your 'rents do for you. You'll like them, and yourself, more.
3. Pay attention to some of the good comments above.
