If it were something small so that it couldn't be seen as a bribe, I would be honored. What we really like is knowing that someone appreciates what we do, so the exact nature of the gift is secondary to the fact of the gift. Over the years, I've gotten everything from candy to artwork. I'm looking at a beautiful miniature Pakistani painting I got from a Pakistani student right now. Probably the oddest thing I ever got was a case of fresh eel! The student's parents had an eel-processing company in their home country, and they were visiting her and brought the eel as a thank-you to her professors. In those days I had a roommate, who was completely freaked out by the fact of a big case of eel in the refrigerator. I actually like it, but I had to get rid of it quickly because she couldn't handle it.

Well, personally i think gifts should come from the heart. Anyway, my bro and mum are teachers and some of their favourite teacher's day presents were all handmade, including cards and colored sand poured in a small bottle. If you can't think of anything to give, another present teachers love is a set of red pens. You have no clue how quickly they run through those.

Certainly! I have actually had the pleasure of receiving hand made gifts from students in a daycare I worked at. To see how happy and proud they are when they give them to you is beautifully priceless. I have also made little gifts for the kids for holiday parties. One Valentine's Party they had at the center I made valentine heart magnets with construction paper with sweet valentine sayings on them just like the little heart candies. All the kids loved them and the parents did not mind the absence of candy. Gift giving is always good for someone involved.

of course you would be happy as long as there is the thought and the effort of that handmade gift.

Handmade would be wonderful. Just as long as it didn't involve anything that came off or out of your body.

Personally I would love it. I think buying gifts is so over-rated these days. What ever happened to taking your time on making a gift?

As a teacher, any gift will be just as appreciated. Of course, it all boils down to the intentions of giving a gift. If the student is sincere and would like to express her/his thoughtfulness and thanks, then whatever ur gift is will be accepted whole heartedly.

You have to be careful though. Schools often have strict policy rules on gift-giving. But I'm sure you'll be fine.
