A clutch can last a long time or a short time according to how it is used or abused.
I have had some last 30-40000 miles and others last 150000+.
I just replaced one that was replaced in the early 70's, the frictions came loose and not burned

If you can smell it it is time for a new one.

How long is a piece of string? Bad drivers can burn a clutch in a day. Find a safe place to try following: while still pressing on accelerator also push brake with other foot. (within reason) Good clutch will stall engine, worn clutch will make engine rev without stalling....
Burned smell is not a good sign though... have somebody teach you how to drive manual gearbox properly ( clutch can and should last a very long time) good luck

If you drive well, a clutch can last over 50K miles. On all my cars I have owned (Jeep, Saturn, Mitsubishi, Ford, BMW) the clutch went over 75K miles... but I am tall, so I press the clutch in all the way when stopped.

A burning smell can mean that you are burning the clutch plates and transmission fluid!

i have 170 thousand on a clutch right now,and its still good,it wouldn't take much to probably burn it out,but you should be able to go a long way on a clutch if you drive it right,i don't do burn outs with mine though that's probably why it has lasted, you might can adjust yours ,the burnt smell you have is usually when it has slipped a little, try adjusting it,if it slips,if you smelled it, it means you made it slip some, good luck with it.
