I have a linksys BEFW11S4 version 4 router. (I know it is crappy, but someone stole my good one). My computer does not recognize it, says I need to install a driver, can not find a driver, etc, but obviously my computer runs internet through it.

I have Vista and no install CD-- how do I get the computer to recognize what kind of hardware it is? Or, where can I get a driver? I followed instructions on linksys.com, but when I go to the IP address and enter the password they say, it says invalid.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

You don't need a driver on your PC for the router. It should work out of the box, wired,
and only require some setup to do wireless.

If the default password does not work, find the reset button on the router. Press it and hold it in for 30 seconds.

You have Vista - I'm sorry

Why Vista would want a "driver" for a router is a mystery to me.

If what you are trying to do is access the router setup pages, and the router won't let you in, use the instructions on the Linksys site to reset the router to default settings

question though, is your computer a desktop or a laptop? and is it looking for the driver for the ethernet adapter or the wireless adapter? Vista is pretty simple, if you plug a device to it, it should try to install that device, as long as you have the needed CD with the installers. if not, you can select the option for it to connect online to download the compatible drivers for it.

have you tried calling linksys? try these # s 1-800-326-7114 or 1-800-201-3949.

good luck!

you elect 'admin' privileges on the computing device to be waiting to place in drivers. Your person account on the computing device is obviously no longer an 'administrator' account. you will ought to touch whoever you obtain the computing device from to get the logon info for the admin account on the computing device.
