He could be, but the recent injury has put him on hold until the Yankees - Red Sox series. He still has a shot at becoming the comeback player, but there are many other players who deserve to win too, Magglio, Carlos Pena, Gary Sheffield, Hideki Matsui, and many more. I don't think that this is Clemens year, but if all goes well (pitching complete game shut outs for the rest of the year) he might be a candidate for the award.

2005 ERA 1.87
2006 ERA 2.30
2007 ERA 4.45
According to The Sporting News, the comback player of the year award is "given to one player in each league who has reemerged as a star in that season."
Roger Clemens in 2007 has reemerged as a mediocre number 3 starter.
I think Carlos Pena deserves it for the AL this year. look at his stats over the past 5 years and look at what he has done this season.

It will probably be given to Sheffield though.

He won't get it for the season.
But, assuming the Yankees make the playoffs and he pitches as he is still capable of, he could be essential to a World Series victory.
If this happens, he will be worth every penny the Yankees paid for him.
Don't write off the Rocket yet.

No plus he'd have to have a good year to qualify for that. He's been horrible lately.

No, but he could be the "go-away player of the year."
Have you seen him this year? He's been awful.

No, he hasn't come back from any injuries or anything like that. He's only come back from sitting around in his mansion for the first half of the regular season.
