Placenta is the passage way for the fetus to expel waste. However, I cant find anything that shows the placenta to be toxic. I can't imagine a human eating a placenta anyway.

Many animals, the mother usually, consume the placenta after birthing. We don't see them dropping dead.

So, I am wondering why it is you think it is toxic.

it's not - it's delicious and nutritious. Fry with garlic, red wine and fava beans. consume with a little chianti and watch the sun set.

By the way the placenta carries nutrient into the fetus and oxygen and removes carbon dioxide. Other waste processed by baby's gut and kidneys is excreted straight into the amniotic fluid surrounding baby.

Most animals eat theirs for the nutrients and to deter predators from finding their newborns. Humans are the only animals that don't do this although I've heard about some extremist naturalists who've cooked theirs and eaten them. Yuck! TMI
