i think it was indeed a promotional move, but it wasn't cuz everyone wanted to hear her new music
they wanted to see how bad she was and how big of a plumit her career has taken ever since she messed up her life
but yes, it was to get people to watch it
on the other hand though, maybe they made her the opening act so everyone that showed up late didn't miss anything special

They used each other....
I kinda feel for her because the media is having a tear-her-a-new-asshole campaign and the woman is a mother. It's scathing and unscrupulous. Does this woman even have a friend?
She's not the brightest star in the sky; but she's been in the music industry long enough to know the pro's and con's of choosing to when and where to perform and how it'll affect her career.
It's not like MTV trapped her in a black room with no windows and forced her to sign the dotted line...these celeb superstars have an army-team of legal representation including publicity firms, attorneys, booking agents, and managers that all helped her to make the decision of opening for MTV.
Brittany fugged up and so did MTV for giving a hot spot to an artist who hasn't performed or had an hit album in years, shows her crotch on a weekly basis to America, and is hella tacky and classless.
Boo MTV...Boo.
Britney go used...and had and hellava paying being used. But she played herself by not performing well.

could very well be. They know either way they'd gain a audience tuning in to see how she acted. Whether she sunk or swim they could care less. They got the rating thats what they'd be interested in and if she faltered even better news for them.
Its all about money you don't think they actually care about the performers. Just someone else wanting there pockets filled

I would say YA they did! But I would have to say they could have used the spice girls and I might have been a little more excited! She STUNK!!!! her body was not too much in shape especially for her being a STAR!! The best part of the whole Britney thing would have to be Sara Silverman who bashed her as soon as she got off!

I think it goes the other way around. Britney probably used MTV to make it back into her career. Did it work? Most likely not.

Yes obviously for ratings they did use her. I'd actually go as far as to say used and abused her after that comedian ripped her. That was just harsh.

probably!
i mean, they win either way! if she rocked it then they will get the credit of her comeback.
if she bombed, which she did big time, then they get the rating they want.
it was a good business move on MTV's part

ya, i do, because the ratings were really low, so a TON of ppl watched, although i think they should have had her do an encore at the end to redeem herself though

I don't think they used her, i think they honestly thought she'd really be a star and make their show a hit and she did a good job of making it a hit-miss.

sure, they were hoping for a train wreck...and got one...
but, if by some miracle she went over well, heck that would
have been a win also!
