I think a phone call to your doctor would be advisable, but from what you described, the clot was just holding back the blood, and now you'll have the normal post-labor bleeding. Something similar happened to me with 3 of my babies, and the doctors all said it was normal. Good luck, and congrats on baby! :)

Passing small clots is normal after having a baby, but if you are having A LOT of blood you should definitely call your doctor asap or go to the er just to get checked out. Better safe than sorry!

It's normal to have a lot of bleeding and cramping from clotting. Chances are you will have more clots coming if your really crampy. I would still call your doctor and let him/her know. With all of my pregnancies I always had the heavy bleeding in the beginning. It just better to call and be safe, they may even prescribe something for you. Take care

If your soaking a pad in a matter of mins then I would call your doc or get to the er asap ! When I was still in the hospital the day after I had my little girl the nurse would come in every hour and she would ask how my bleeding was. She said I was to let them know immediately if I was soaking a pad too quickly.

My ob told me not to worry unless the clot was the size of an egg or larger. Everyone is different but i was the same as you and then bled for 3 to 4 weeks after the baby. If it was larger than an egg call your doctor immediatly, they should have an emergancy line. Good luck and Congrats on the new baby!

Why risk anything??? Even if it's nothing, it never hurts to call your doctor. You have another tiny life that is counting on you to take care of him/her, so why even question if you need to see your doctor? Yes, you do bleed a lot right after having a baby, but from what i remember after having my son, big clots are not a good thing. Please call your doctor...what's the worse that could happen? And most of the time, your first instinct is the right one!

after giving birth to my son, i bled a lot and did soaked up the pad a lot of times. Had seen blood in the toilet after i peed and pass small amount of clots. I consulted my dr and he said its ok and just had me rest a lot and don't do heavy lifting and hard work. And it got better. i bled for about almost 9 weeks.

You should be seen ASAP if you bled enough to soak a pad within minutes. Are you still bleeding that heavily right now? If so - go to the hospital immediately!
You should also try to massage your uterus if you are able to feel it, but it may be tucked down below your pelvic bone by day 5, so you might not be able to feel it.
Are you breastfeeding? Put your baby to breast; nipple stimulation will release oxytocin and will help the uterus to contract and lessen bleeding.

I was told that if I was bleeding through a pad in less than an hour, I needed to call.
I think you should call in right away.
The worst that can happen is they'll tell you you're fine, or that you can wait until the morning. But they may tell you you need to come in to be evaluated for hemorrhage.
