A friend of mine just bought a new HP laptop with Vista and in setting up the wireless it works itermittently or sometimes shuts off for a while. Ive already configured the the router twice and tried changing the channel. There are also no other networks in area and even if its within five feet of router it dies the same thing. I was thinking compatability issues and I need to to insert the card into the laptop or there is some setting I am overlooking. Any suggestions will be helpful since this getting annoying since her old laptop never had problem with this at all.

Try disabling all non-network or wifi related startups in msconfig. One of those startups might be conflicting w/ wifi. Once ok, enable the startups, one at a time to isolate the cause of the problem.
Or if you have a 2.4Ghz cordless phone, move your laptop away to minimize signal interference.

Belkin wireless routers were recalled because many laptops were unable to connect to them. You're not overlooking anything. You can take it back t the shpo with a receipt and exchange it =p
