This is an example of a really good question I must admit. To me, personally, Democrats are not necessarily pacifists but liberals are. Democrats genuinely do not believe in blaming America first, but liberals do. Democrats want to keep "In God We Trust" on the currency, but liberals don't. Democrats have served in the military or have family in the military, liberals do not and despise the military.

A Democrat becomes a liberal when a Republican becomes a conservative, neither of whom really know or understand the true meaning of their self-imposed labels.
Here's Webster's definitions:
CONSERVATISM: "A political philosophy based on tradition and social stability, stressing established institutions and preferring gradual development to abrupt change."
LIBERALISM: "A political philosophy based on belief in progress, the essential goodness of man, and the autonomy of the individual and standing for the protection of political and civil liberties."

Based on those definitions, I'd say there's a little bit of liberalism and conservatism in ALL of us.....I don't know a conservative that doesn't believe in the essential goodness of man, and I don't know a liberal that doesn't want social stability. Do you??

So why continue to give ourselves insignificant labels only because we've been brainwashed into believing the political Pabulum of one philosophy or another? Why not think for ourselves, and then decide that hate-filled bias and bigotry only serves to further divide our nation? Perhaps it's time to try and unify our country by rejecting the political propaganda of the "Republicrats" who have done nothing for this country except to establish a monopolistic, corrupt two-party political system that allows voters very limited choices and virtually no voice in the selection of those who eventually are appointed to serve the best interests of our nation. -RKO- 09/10/07

clearly there are some more moderate democrats... while the definition of liberal usually brings up a wider left ideology...

I'm not so sure if there's a "magic point"...

the real problem is... the definition for "liberal" in today's political discourse changes almost literally from person to person... so it's almost impossible to nail down a definition that's acceptable for everyone...

by some definitions... every democrat is a liberal... but that's not really the technical definition...

After you register as a Democrat there is a three day waiting period and then someone from the party comes to your home and performs a ceremony that officially makes you a liberal.

Liberalism is an idea originally based upon placing primary importance upon individual liberty and response to change. The democratic party is a grocery list of political positions on issues supposedly related to that idea. Needless to say, the party falls short.

There is almost no difference between Democrats and liberals. About 95% of Democrats are liberals, including every Democrat in the senate except for Lieberman.

It's a shame that the Democrat party has been taken over by liberal extremist cut-and-run kooks.
