Dual core basically is 2 processors on a single die, that means having 2 processors in your computer. This helps you multitask big time, and times taken to complete a task is reduced to much extent, well that also depends on software support. So dual core is an idea and Core 2 Duo is what Intel has named its dual core line of processors that also work on the same idea of dual core. So do not confuse your self with Core 2 Duo and Dual core. Hope that answers your query.
