Can you be tested for a UTI or a kidney infection while on your period? I'm absolutely miserable right now and want to see a doctor ASAP, but I'm afraid that the tests would just come out screwed up anyway.

Yes, they will instruct you how to make a "clean collection" on your urine. If it gets a little contamination it will be OK. I am a medical technologist; I perform the test. They are looking for a large quantity of white cells, bacteria, and nitrites that certain bacteria produce. There is no need to be in pain or hurt your kidneys further.

yes, you can be tested for a UTI while on your period. You'll want to clean your genital area thoroughly before you pee in the cup - any normal bacteria on your skin will mess up the results of the urine culture that they'll do. Also, you don't want any of the blood from your period in the cup, because that will mess up urinalysis results.

well, obviously if you are on your period, they can't go by seeing blood in your urine, however, there are other things they look for. So go see your doctor, clean yourself as well as you possibly can and give them a specimen. They will check it microscopically for bacteria and white blood cells, those prove UTI as well, and they can start you on antibiotics to take care of it. Just be sure they know you are on your period.

I agree if you give the dr a clean catch they should be able to treat you. You really need to go now. UTI's can land you in the hospital if they are left untreated. I hope you feel better soon. UTI's are the devil!

No you don't have to wait, your urine analyst will just show high levels of blood. Are you sure it's a UTI? If you are just burning when you pee, it could be more than that. But don't wait until you finish your cycle to get that checked out.

Yes they can test you. You pee in a cup and the urine comes out of your URETHRA not your vagina. Also they look for bacteria and other things when they test your urine. Go get tested NOW>

As long as you are able to provide a 'clean catch' they should be able to check for an infection without any problem.
