If you have a filter on the tank, you may be able to keep 3-4 males. Don't get females or a mixed group, or they will quickly overpopulate your tank. Even females by themselves isn't a good idea if they're kept in tanks with males present. Females can store sperm from a single mating, and continue to give birth about every 28 days for 6 months.

Question : What kind of home does my new guppy need?
Many people new to guppies think a fish bowl of 1 or 3 gallons is sufficient. However, this is incorrect.
A guppy is very active and needs space, and space also gives you the benefit of seeing the amazing colours of the fish in all their glory. Also, they are social fish and it is a sad injustice to submit one to solitary confinement. A group of three, a male and two females, is the minimum, and for this you need at least a 4 to 5 gallon tank.

general rule for fish
Freshwater is 1 inches of fish for every gallon of water.
Saltwater is .5 inches of fish for every gallon of water.
BUT: I have had guppies in the past, and they are a great community fish, and are also very fun and easy 2 breed. I had up to 20 guppies in a 5 gallon tank at one time. It is fun to buy 3-4 females and 1 male and have them make babies, and watch the generations colors change. If you decide to do this, make sure the filter cant suck up the babies, and also, make sure there is plenty of hiding space for them.
i would suggest getting a bigger tank! or, you could probably hold around 10 guppies, i would start with a pair (male and female) and let them go at it.

1 male and 2 females in that size tank is doable, but your going to have to watch your paramiters VERY carefully as they will fluctuate very quickly and your fish can die in a matter of hours...
the other thing to worry about with guppies is they are extreemly prolific breeders and you could end up with MANY.

A fish can only grow according to the size of the tank. The bigger the tank the bigger the fish would get.
I don't think I would put more than three in there.
