i'd like to learn more about people with such traits, since i'm writing a story about one such character.

do you have any distinct habits, tendencies, phobias, etc. as a result of being so meticulous and cautious?

any tidbits at all would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

You may be describing obsessive-compulsive behavior, when you feel compelled to do something or repeat something that really isn't necessary, such as obsessive hand washing, making sure all the doors are locked, when you already locked them just minutes ago -- that type of thing.

People who are overly meticulous are subconsciously going back to their childhood, when they may have had a domineering mother who insisted on everything being perfect and clean. While some people rebel at this, others seem to be stuck in a time warp.

Being overly cautious is also a learned behavior, but not necessarily a psychological one, especially in today's society where there are plenty of reasons to be cautious and careful.

My phobias are fear of heights and crowded places; acrophobia and claustrophobia. I've never liked that hemmed-in feeling, and feel the urge to flee or escape. I didn't know I had a fear of heights until I was put to the test on one of those crazy carnival rides. Also, I hate those overpasses where you can look down and see the street below with cars whizzing by. I just know the bridge is going to collapse. Other than that, I guess I'm pretty sane and normal. LoL!
