The cents sign is available.
Hold down the Alt key and press 1 5 5 on the numeric keypad.

It's ASCII character 155.
Why? Because computers need every available key. Symbols like | and ^ have specific meanings in some environments like Unix.

Because Its not common to use the cents sign, and if they include every sign like that the keyboard will be huge...

Because $ is used most often. You can put the cents sign in with a keyboard shortcut (i cannot remember it right now)

select the Lucida Console font (if posable) hold alt and type 155 then release and you can use the cents sign if you cant change the font then play with holding alt and number combinations from 1-255 to get other signs and accent marks

Because you can show cents by the decimal point - example: $1.50. Does that make 'sense' to you?
