The cradles of civilization, Rome, Athens, Venice, Pisa. Paris because it's a really, really beautiful city even if you have to put up with the rude, snobby and snooty French. London, for it's history and because at one time more than half the world was ruled from there. Berlin, because it was so pivotal in 20th century history, WWII, the Cold War, spies, the Berlin Wall, the Berlin Airlift, etc.
There are others, like Madrid, Lisbon, Amsterdam, Munich, Hamburg, Copenhagen. The list is long and they all have very interesting things but the above are my top picks.

nicely, with Italy by myself, you need to take the practice up the completed mainland. initiate with Sicily, then pass to Pompeii, Naples, Rome, Florence, tuscany, Venice, and Milan Paris, Prague, Brussels, franfurt, Anstradam, Vienna, berlin, Barcelona, Athens..... seem on tourist web content and spot what the suitable places are to pass to, and what ports cruiselines pass to. in case you have been to a brilliant form of places already, then why do you need to ask?
