An old fashion rule of thumb - a bit outdated, but I still follow the "no white shoes after labor day" rule - only because it seems strange to wear white shoes going into fall. Doesn't look quite right unless you're going to Hawaii.

The old rule about not wearing white after Labor Day went out a while back. It is now entirely appropriate to wear any color at any time.

Labor Day is kind of the unofficial marker for autumn. However, if you live in a warmer climate, IMHO you can still wear white. It might look kind of funny if you are in the northeast or midwest, wearing white when all the leaves on the trees have orange and golden brown.

I've heard that it mainly applies to pants. Personally, I think the rule should be no white pants year round, except in Florida where they're old and can't help it.
