LOL not easy. for my cat with a uti i just cleaned the litter box stuck him in the cage and waited.....took him out when done i have syringes and sucked it up in 2 of them(for Gestational Diabetes's the needles)
for a dog a friend of mine got sterile cup and a stick and some tape and followed her male dog....and with some luck she caught it that way...lol it was amusing to watch....
stool a pastic spoon and a plastic bag...or brown lunch bag.
if u can not get the pee they have to 'cath' the animal...

It is hard to do. But if a cat or dog has a bad bladder infection, it may pee on the floor and you might be able to pick some up with a dropper. I have done this with a cat. But I think the vets usually get the sample with a catheter. Often they get the fecal sample with a swab too.
[My cat, confined to the bathroom due to a bladder infection, has started to pee in the bathtub whenever I pee in the toilet... Is she imitating me?]

For a dog, get some sort of container that is shallow enough to pop under their rear end when they go out to pee (we have a shallow Glad plasticware dish that is exclusively for this purpose, since we have concerns about kidney issues in our dog). When they start to pee, slide it under them mid-stream and collect the sample.
I would think you could do the same with cats, but you'd just have to be a lot more patient and catch them when they were using the litter box.

I held a cup under my male when he lifted his leg to collect a sample.
One tip.. tape a paperplate or bowl to a yard stick and use that to hold under your pet when it urinates to catch urine.
Iff you cant get a urine sample, and the vet needs one, he can use a catheter to collect a sample.

okay, so you don't actually have to do it, you were just curious. okay, i agree with one of those answers. you could follow it around. fecal samples are the easiest. you just, literally just pick them up right as it happens.

Follow the dog or cat around with a receptacle obviously - and hope you get lucky.

slide a styrofoam plate ,bowl or any other container you can to catch a small amount and then place it into a sterile container for transport to the vet for testing.

you need to wait until the dog goes and have a shallowish container to put under them when they go.
