Mass depends on density as well as volume. If 2 equal volumes are made up of stuff of different density, their masses will be different.

It depends upon the density of the elements that make up each. For example a 2oz sponge empty would have one mass (weight) but if it were filled with water it would weigh more. Also if you filled the sponge with concrete mix it would weigh even more.
