it's bureaucracy
chances are, though, the people who prevented your bro from taking the water pistol on board were not the same who screened the nine-evelen terrroists. also the circumstances were a bit different (more covert hiding of weapons, perhaps?).

That's not to explain the inadequacies, but unfortunately most things in life don't make sense and that's the world we live in

and if you want to change it, move to antarctica and start your own world; just don't let the US find you!

oh btw..some of the prohibited items are a little ridiculous and the TSA is finally realizing that lighters may finally be okay to bring back on the plane (and remember the SNL skit where they fantasized about having a group of people combining their 3oz of liquids to exceed the limit?)

First, let me address the squirt gun issue. Just whom amongst the passengers do you think wouldn't object to being squirted by a kid with a water gun? I certainly wouldn't want my books, papers or laptop doused. Secondly, the men who took control of the planes didn't do it with knives but with box cutters they had hidden on their bodies. Before 9/11 we didn't have the searching we have in place now so they got on with those deadly things. I imagine anyone with a plastic squirt gun still can't take it onboard.

the entire security system at airports is a joke. i just flew recently, and realized after i landed that i had matches AND lighters in my purse!! which, by the way, did not just slip through - it was x-rayed twice and then hand searched because it had a small bottle of contact solution in it. i got scolded for not having it in a ziplock bag -- and then allowed through with the matches and lighters. i didn't realize i hadn't taken them out... but the fact that they got through -- when my purse was scrutinized!! -- is pretty scary.

but they got my dasani bottle away from me... god forbid i splash water on those matches!!

ridiculous

It doesn't. That showed the inconsistency of our security before 9/11. Although are security is better it is still not up to par. It doesn't make sense, your right.

well my dear does anything in life really make sense?love, marriage, jobs, security, money? we are constantly struggling to have what we dont have , only to leave it to those who dont understand what we went through to have it.
So eat,****, sleep and make love.thats the best thing you can do for your self all the miserable days appointed to us humans, but remember, you will be held accountable for your deeds in the end by the almighty observer.

well, that's all the proof i need to figure it all out...let's see, bush flew a missle into the pentagon, hid that plane and it's passengers...somewhere,...still,....then, got osama bin laden to act like he hates America and his good ole buddies , THE JEWS, and take the blame for 9/11 attacks...oh yeah, bin laden just loves republicans and jews, did you know Osama is actually a lutheran??...yep, that must have been what happened..it just has to be..and hey,..thanks for reminding us that tommorow is sept. 11th aniversery, i bet i would have forgotten all about the connection...now excuse me while i pull my tounge out of my cheek.

My passport expired, so I used someone else's to board a flight 5 weeks ago. "Improved" security...

this must be the "chewbacca" proof that 9/11 was a government conspiracy

"Now think about it; that does not make sense!"
