Knit has to do with how the material is made, whether it's a knit, woven, etc.

If you look at any random shirt you might wear, if the fabric has those little lines from the way it was created, it's a knit. Knit also has a stretch to it, woven generally does not.

woven tops are when the fabric is made by strings **weave** in and out of eachother like a baskit. most shirts and bassicly all t-shirts are knit. knit tops have strings that are knit together, the fabric might look like a woven scarve, but the fabric is much tighter since the strings are much smaller.
