For my son's birthday, he wanted to go to Waffle House. It's an hour away on a good day.
It was worth it, because he asked if he could buy a mug, and the waitress gave it to him free.

We once flew from Washington DC to Phoenix AZ to go a restaurant in the town of Cave Creek called the Horny Toad. They have the freshest and best fried chicken anywhere (they raise their own chickens), and we had an irresistible craving for it. We ordered extra to bring back to DC in a cooler. Also north of Phoenix (in Scottsdale, I guess, but out on the fringe, near Pinnacle Peak) is another place not to be missed, the Cowboy Cookshack -- seriously great hamburgers, served out in the desert. It's not in the phone directory, and I don't know the actual address, but if you go to the Pinnacle Peak Patio (easy to find, a favourite tourist place -- don't go in wearing a necktie or they will cut it off and nail it to the wall) and ask for directions, they can tell you how to get there -- it's not far. The Cookshack is the antithesis of a tourist spot. I adore it. The Horny Toad is more touristy, but the chicken makes up for it. Was it worth the trip? Yes.

At the moment, I'm craving Brasilian food, particularly farofa with feijoada, and a caipirinha. It's 22:30 at night, and the nearest Brasilian restaurant is about fifty miles from where I am at the moment, so I guess I shall just have to dream about it... or get a plane ticket... to Rio?

No more than a half hours' drive for Chinese food, in an area
where we used to live. We've since found a great Chinese
buffet with everything under the sun and more. And we drive
about 20 min. by freeway north to get there. The place never
advertises, and there's always a filled parking lot. Word of
mouth has made it a very popular place, on any day of the
week.

Good question.

I live in Portland and have driven to the beach 2 hours away with nearly the sole purpose of getting Mo's Clam Chowder...but It's the beach so that doesn't really count.

I drove once an hour to get brunch at Multnomah Falls Lodge.

When ever I get the craving for El Salvadorian food I drive up to San Fransisco, 1hour 30 minutes each way.

Hell yeah its worth it!!! lol

My Mom, Brother, Cousins, Uncles and Aunts have all made the drive countless times to the city. Can't remember the name though, there are 2 or 3 we frequent.

Fly six hours to California and drive one hour to eat at In-n-Out.

When I was in Iraq and I found someone headed for the West Coast, I would ask them to get a double-double and just bring back the wrapper in a plastic bag. I can imagine the smell right now.

23 miles, to a buffet eatery called Ryan's.

Ryan's is a national chain, so I generally highly recommend it. The thing is, the quality may vary by location. The one I go to regularly is superb. But it's worth at least one visit. All you can eat, including steak during dinner time, for one low price.

Golden Corral is a similar, but separate chain. Again, their quality varies by location.

An hour and a half to get to the one Cheese Cake Factory in the Minneapolis area. It was well worth it. Their food is yummy.
