Your best low cost solution is probably to look for a "Hybrid diagonal". It'll fit your telescope on one end, and hold a 1.25" eyepiece on the other. It'll cost you about $25 plus shipping.

You'll still need to buy an eyepiece, but that eyepiece will be useful when you buy a new scope.

If you have an heirloom scope by a noted maker, (Pentax, Zeiss, Unitron...) an alternative you might consider is shopping for Pentax .965 eyepieces. You'll probably need to import your own. But odds are the hybrid diagonal will make more sense.

The 0.965" barrel used to be the Japanese standard, but these days only very low-end eyepieces are available in that size. You can get an adapter that lets you use 1.25" eyepieces, though it will require that the telescope has some additional focus in-travel. Try Orion ( http://www.telescope.com/ ) for adapters; they used to sell some of their cheaper eyepieces in 0.965" also.

if you seriously want good eyepieces in that size, try Astromart (http://www.astromart.com/ ). There used to be some high-quality orthoscopics made in 0.965". These are older designs, though, and have short eye relief and narrow fields of view.

Though many older cheap telescopes used this diameter eyepiece, there were some good ones. You can also purchase adaptors that make use of these small diameter EP's in 1.25 focusers.

I have never heard of that size. The only ones I have seen are 1 1/4 inch or 2 inch unless you go professional and even larger.

Perhaps the manufacturer of your scope makes some sort of adapter?

They are around. You need to go to places like Mayflower, Tasco, Edmunds all of these companies deal in small Japanese format eye pieces.

Do a Google Search.

Not too many places make them anymore. In fact, I doubt if anyone makes them anymore. Your best bet is to buy a .965" to 1.25" adapter (www.telescope.com).
