I have 2 red ear slider turtles as pets. I have a pretty good environment for them and clean the tank regularly. I have had the turtles for 4 years, and am planing on breeding them, (one is a male, one is female, and i know they are able to breed around 5 years old) so i am getting ready for that. I have a 35 gallon glass tank pretty deep with water, and was wondering what special things i will need to accommodate the eggs and etc..
I know some turtles have to lay eggs in the sand or dirt, but since RES's are mostly aquatic, do they lay eggs underwater? Probably not... just a beginner at this and wondering if anyone had some tips. thanks

Sliders need a place to dig a nest and lay the eggs. If this is not provided, she will drop the eggs in the water and they will drown instantly and be no good. I've never heard of a person successfully breeding red eared sliders in an aquarium. Everyone I know that's bred red eared sliders has done so in a backyard pond.

If they are young you shouldn't have a problem keeping them together at first compatibility-wise, but you have to make sure you have enough room for them later when they get big (up to twelve inches of shell each!). If you are buying both as adults from a pet store, you may want to watch and make sure that you don't pick two hugely aggressive turtles. If you have had one for a long time and are introducing another into the tank, you want to be very careful. The one who has been there longer will most likely show signs of territorial aggression, in which case one turtle will end up attacked and/or dead (I don't know how often the latter happens, but turtles do fight). So long as you keep the tank large enough (I would say at least 55 gallons for the two) and make sure they don't fight, they should be okay. You can feed them in separate containers if you're worried about them being greedy over food, but if you start doing this, you have to keep doing it, as they're going to battle it out once you start feeding them together.

Give them moist sand or dirt to lay eggs in. They mostly do the stuff on their own so don't worry!!!!

This webpage will provide you with everything you need to know. Please do lots of research before breeding. A 35 gallon is way too small for a pair of RES.
