-point guard (a.k.a the point, pg)height: 5'11(sometimes under)-6'4

like a quarter back of basketball. they control the offense . the point guards main job is to setup the play and distribute the ball , and sometimes score if need be.

-shooting guard(a.k.a the two , off guard, sg)height: 6'4-6'8

mainly shoots the ball, occasionally passes the ball or maybe handle the ball to get pressure off the point guard. most of the time a perimeter shooter.

-small forward(a.k.a the three, sf)height: 6'6 - 6'10

kind of like a bigger shooting guard, usually can shoot on the perimeter. the biggest difference is he is an important defender , kind of does a little bit of everything (rebounds , scores , passes, defends)

-power forward(a.k.a the four, big man, pf) height: 6-9 and all the way up

compliments the center in defending and scoring in the post. normally can score outside of the post , might have a mid range shot. although some power forwards can shoot on the perimeter as well (look up rasheed wallace , dirk nowitzki), but most of the time cannot shoot on the perimeter.

-center(a.k.a the five , big man, C) height: 6'9 and all the way up

alot similar to powerforward , only he/she plays in the post more. and also specializes in defense more (blocking , rebounding etc...) usually the biggest guy on his/her side of the court (not always but most of the time)

when i listed their heights , thats just usually how it is...sometimes youll see taller or shorter than listed at those positions. but mostly thats how it is.
i hope i helped you. basketball in my opinion is the best sport out there , i hope you get into it and like it.

Center - Primarily a defensive position, a center is tasked with protecting the shaded lane, especially that area under the hoop from high percentage drives or incursions from the opposing team. He should be able to block shots, intimidate opponents and collar rebounds, both defensive and offensive so a center is usually the tallest player on a team.

Power Forward - is tasked with inside scoring on offense and guarding the opposing team's inside scorer on defense. Being a big man himself, he must also be a strong rebounder and defender to compliment the center.

Small Forward - is one of the team's primary shooters (along with the Second or Off Guard) from the perimeter. He's also tasked with defending the wings (hence, the term wingman) and guarding the opposing team's chief scorer.

Second or Off Guard - also one of the team's primary shooters but he has a longer range than the small forward. On defense, he's tasked with defending against the opposing team's outside gunners and preventing fastbreaks by being one of the first men (the other being the Point Guard) down on defense.

Point Guard - Principal ball handler and orchestrator of offensive plays. His role is to pass first and spread the ball. He's usually the last option to shoot the ball, mostly on kickouts from the center or the forwards so he must have a reliable outside shot. On defense, he has the same role as the second guard. Usually the smallest guy on the team.

C- (center): plays in the post (under the basket) specializes in blocking, rebounding and scoring "in the post" ex: Amare Stoudamire

PF- (power forward): plays near the post alongside the center, they usually do the same stuff centers do but they are faster and big. Ex: Tim Duncan

SF- (small forward): like a shooting guard, but bigger, they specialize in all areas Ex: Lebron James

SG- (shooting guard): guard who specializes at shooting Ex: Michael Redd

PG- (point guard): the guy that brings the ball upcourt, usually the fastest, smallest guy with the best ball handling skills, they make plays Ex: Steve Nash

Well, it relies on how huge you're. you cannot say one role is bigger than the opposite. the PG passes, SG shoots, SF dunk/lay up/shoot3's PF dunks,rebounds/shoot bigger. Crebounds and is the tallest individual. I play PG however it's the important (important, now not satisfactory.) PG=PointGuard SG=ShootingGuard SF=SmallForward PF=PowerForward C=Center
