I loved Maple Leaf Gardens, The Detroit OIympia, the Buffalo Aud and the old St. Louis arena.
None of the current buildings has the same feel.

The Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, so much to see and plus it has no bad seats.
But no rink in the history of the NHL has had so much fun and exciting games as the Spectrum in Philly. Those games in the 70's was the most entertaining that I have seen.
my all time top 5 arenas would be.
1- Montreal Forum
2- Boston Garden
3-Chicago Stadium
4- The Spectrum
5- The Aud in Buffalo

My favourite arenas are
1) The Pengrowth Saddledome (Calgary Flames) - great place, great sightlines, great crowd, great atmosphere
2) Xcel Energy Centre (Minnesota Wild) - I can't find anything wrong here except the sightlines aren't perfect. It's a great place, not sure why Pierre Maguire hates it, but then.....I don't like Pierre Maguire
3) The Phone Booth (Montreal Canadiens) - too staid when compared to the old Forum, but still a great place to watch a hockey game. Most knowledgeable hockey fans in the world.
Arenas I miss
Buffalo's Memorial Auditorium, the rink was 4 feet too short (196x85) but the fans made it seem so much shorter.
Chicago Stadium (185x85) the smallest stadium to host NHL games, and with the high angle banked stands, the loudest place on earth. I still rue the day that Jerry Reinsdorf felt that the Bulls needed a new place to play!
The Montreal Forum. This was THE place to play and watch hockey. The fans weren't as loud as other places (they were formal) but they knew the game inside out........and let you know!

RBC Center, for one reason only. It is the only arena within an hours drive from where I live. Best arena period is the old Broome County Vetrans Memorial Arena in Binghamton, NY. I love watching games there.

The Pepsi Center is great. Anyone who has ever been there would agree. Unless they are red wing fans. But I saw Philly and the Rangers at the Garden in New York a couple years ago. That was special.

Of course everyone is going to say their home arena.
I have never been to an NHL arena, but from what i seen on tv, I like the saddle dome in calgary, the shape is pretty sweet.
Also Nation Wide looks pretty nice.

I loved the old rinks. They were cramped and smelly but they oozed the history of the game. The Olympia, the Forum and MLG all felt like I was entering a place of reverence when I went there. I find the new buildings lacking in character but obviously better equipped.

The Pepsi Center!!! Because it's the only one I've been to. It's really state-of-the-art.

chelifan24, the Joe Louis Arena was named the worst in all of sports by Maxim magazine. Says so right here on their website: http://www.maximonline.com/articles/index.aspx?a_id=7366

Like I'm Telling You...good call! i always wondered, when they were debating building the new arena, they estimated repairs for the aud, like long-standing ones not needing annual upkeep, at 2 million...so then we went and spent more than that on hsbc...another wise fiscal decision of my hometown lol. it is a really cool building though.
