Heres the problem:

Solve for a:
z=(c-a)/(k+a)

Please explain in as much detail as possible as to how you got to your answer. I think there might be a general formula to solve this but i might be wrong. Anyway let me know. Thanks.

This is algebra.

z = (c - a)/(k + a)
z(k + a) = c - a
kz + az = c - a
az + a = c - kz
a(z + 1) = c - kz
a = (c - kz)/(z + 1)
