There is a real possibility that within the next 30 years China, India, and the European Union could become superpowers due to their rapid economic and population growth rate.
How would this affect America's status in the world?
What would be the repercussions if this were to happen?

Those who control American politics are way smarter than me and you. And i'm not talking about Bush, but a lot more people.

European Union is no where close to being a superpower. Their opinion is too divided, their population is actually not rising and too many economical problems to face with new additions added every year (poor countries such as Romania)

China is communist. People of the country will soon realize their rights and will seek for it. Remember the time when China was a real communist country? Now it's soften to a more Capitalism way. And sooner or later, workers will gain their rights and will be paid more. So do you think that any company would like to pay higher price for workers in china? No, they'll move. America will not lose to China. Plus China population is not growing fast anymore.

India has many economical and social problems. Their population is growing, but they got no food to support it. They got a democracy, a good way to become superpowers, but they lack the power in world scale. Their not even in G8 (China is not also, but that's because their communists).

Us has been the sole super power since 1991 after USSR collapsed, and been a superpower, along with USSR since WW2. It's a very short time. Remember the Persian Empire was a super power for nearly 250 years! The Romans for about 300 years and the Sassanids for also 300 years.

So we will see US as the super power for a long time and there is no real competition at the time... Except China which will be dissolved into Capitalism.

Good luck to you ;-)

This German is wrong. The US has had way worse times than this. We have had a rough patch in the late 80s we had a larger gas crisis in the 70 during the carter years. We came back. Look at any economy they have all dropped. China dropped because of us. We are the worlds largest consumer. If we stop buying then alot of economy's will drop. Russia dropped, china dropped, india dropped the Euro has a slight decrease. So many country's have ties with us that if are economy has failed alot of people from all over the world will be hurt. 2 things about america. In time of crisis we come together and always have seemed to come back a stronger country second anyone in the last 300 years who have bet against the US has lost alot of money. In conclusion Have faith in america we are a young contry with still a very bright future. Every person counts this year whoever you choose to vote for make it for the right reason and most off all make sure you vote

I would hate to think of what would happen. Being a superpower is an awesome responsibility.

When this country got started they the founders never dreamed that we would be a superpower and in a way it was thrust ed upon us.

We The USA were minding our own business and outsiders would interfere and we fought back. When we barge in without being pushed we don't do as well as when push comes to shove.

We were a big nation that if it is true; we were the sleeping giant in The bible, don't know for sure

Israel was Gods chosen nation and when they followed Gods direction they prospered but when they barged in to things without Gods blessing they became the losers. The same thing happens with this nation that states that it is One Nation Under God. Whenever we think of ourselves as a nation to be ahead of God then we have cast aside our leader who is God.

With nuclear power and paranoia they would want to protect their interest and anyone of them could start the final war, the world of the world. Scary isn't it?

The final days are coming that is for sure so pray and stay always in contact with Our Father who is our fearless leader. The nation as it is won't survive the final war but his people, all over the world, will in the end be the survivors.

I would say that China already is a superpower.

The EU is a economic union that is quickly approaching a full fledged economic union. They will be something new & I believe they will be relatively peaceful because of the number of countries involved.

India has so many problems, they could not become a superpower in 30 years. Maybe in 150 years.

I don't think Europe will be much of a threat. India is ramping up their blue water navy (aircraft carriers and nuke subs), but they don't seem to be threatening anyone. China seems to be more of an economic threat, they have not really built up their strategic forces, they mainly have a brown water navy. I think they know that if they build up a lot, Japan will too. But I do think their economic power is a bit of a worry. On the other hand, since they own so much U.S. debt, and we are their major export market, it would seem that it wouldn't help their economy if they were to ruin ours.

i dont really know if the nation is bankrupt, i havent heard anything regarding that so... yes.

anyways
I dont really see a negative effect to anyone by these countries' rapid growth. just economic flourishment.
as for the fear of attack, i wouldnt worry about it. we still have the strongest military and no nation without suicidal tendencies would dare try to conquer the world. there are far too many other countries who really arent fans of world domination for this to happen, not to mention the people inhabiting the countries

"How would this affect America's status in the world?"

Who cares.....it's not like there is any real significant manufacturing happening in the US - it's all been outsourced to China.

America will be a nation of iPod-listening, Starbucks-sucking kids and retirees waiting for pension checks.

America's main industry today is entertainment. Not very high quality entertainment either IMHO if the likes of Britney Spears are among the best sellers.

One can almost safely assume that there will be an attempt to suppress the USA at sometime during that 30 yrs...just based on the opinion of the US in the world today. (mind you, NOT that I agree with US bashers)

Frankly, I see Russia as one of the players that will attempt to crush and overthrow anyone that stands in their way to become a bigger and bigger player. I suspect that they are coercing, manipulating and working with Iran to undermine the USA's efforts in the middle east.

We can safely assume that Iran will continue to provoke the US, regardless of whomever is behind their actions. Their president is one of the most ruthless terrorists on the planet to my way of thinking...sharing that title with Senor Putin.

The EU is just too disjointed.
India lacks the natural resources needed to reach super power status.
China is a possibility.. but they're not exactly a resource rich country either.

Well, nothing could have convinced US government in the past century or so to respect others right and existence!

Interfering in others affairs and plundering their natural sources, imposing power on those nations that raised objections to wards US and its false foreign policies and tried to be independent,......etc,etc.

May be losing the "super power" put an end to all these unjust acts and world be FREE at last!!
