When I know it's going to take me a minute or two to get my boys bottle (also 5 weeks) I'll put his pacifier in just so he doesn't scream. He usually sucks on it for a minute or so, then his face gets this look like "Hey, there's nothing coming out of this thing!!" Then it gets spit out and the screaming commences. (However once I soothe him and he sees the bottle coming towards his mouth his eyes (and mouth) open wide and he gets all excited like he's going "Hot diggity dog, here comes the food!!")

Why would you give your child a pacifier when he wants food? With a newborn they're always hungry and you should respond with food - so that the poor thing can learn that the world loves him and values him and will respond to his needs. Unless you are trying to teach him otherwise?

As for what such a little one is thinking, not much - he is really just experiencing at this point. Except maybe, "Hey jerk, what the hell? Do you expect me to get my bottle for myself?"

That baby wants milk. My son did not take a paci until he was teething. Even now he just chews on it rarely sucks on it. All 5 week old babies want to eat sleep, poop and eat again. Good Luck and feed that baby!! :)

FOOD! GIVE ME FOOOOOOOOD!!!

Good grief. I remember how my baby screamed if it took even a minute to get his ready. We used to call it "baby bottle emergency" because his wail was unearthly!
