Email a MaryKay and and Avon sales person. Ask them what kind of fingernail polish they have and what the ingredients are. See if you can get a sample. Go to the makeup counters at the mall - see if you can get a sample (paint one fingernail with each one of the products.)

Here's how scientific method works:

Define the problem - what fingernail polish lasts longest?
Define the differences between polishes - ingredients are the biggest (laquer, etc...) then there's those w/metallic substances, those that say long lasting, those that say strengthen nails, those that say they are none allergenic, those that are waterbased (check your health food store.)

Gather your test subjects and list them and define each by a set of characteristics that each subject will be defined by.

Define how you are going to test and what you are going to test for: example - wear each type and do household chores and measure which has more chips, which loses luster faster, which one flakes off, etc... Write this down (do diagrams or take pictures.)

Make your hypothesis - this is your prediction BEFORE you test. Explain why you think this will be the outcome.

Do your test and describe each step. ie. how you applied the nail polish - what did you do to prepare your fingers before hand. What are the controls (my suggestion is keep the preparation of your nails the same - this is the control.) Do your durability test.

Log in detail what happened and the results - which nail polish failed most... Try to explain why this happened.

Conclusion - re-examine your hypothesis - state whether you were wrong or right, explain why... (you can still get an A+ for having a wrong hypothesis IF you can explain why you were wrong and what was the true outcome.)

Good luck. BTW, check Consumer Reports to see how they write up their scientific investigations - might help with writer's block.

Buy 5 different polishes and put one on each fingernail on one hand and see which lasts longer.

Take a poll among your friends on what brand they think lasts longer and why.

Find out which lasts the longest and why. Maybe it has a special hardening mineral in it that allows it to stay on flawlessly for longer ;)

If you have nothing to write about pick something else
