He dies toward the end of the movie in part 6! I think its because michael myers kills him, or he has a heart attack! They dont show it but you hear him scream, Donald Pleasence died shortly after filming was completed, and rather than re-cast his character with someone else they re wrote it so that his character was killed off, that and the director was an idiot who thought Donald Pleasence wasn't important so he cut alot of his dialogue and scenes.

For the remaining years of his life, Sam Loomis was cared for by his medical assistant and friend Nurse Marion Chambers. He died while living at Marion’s Langdon, Illinois home never knowing why Michael Myers was so violent and disturbed. For many years, he had hoped to reform his longtime patient, but gave up any genuine treatment when he realized that Myers was filled and influenced by demonic forces, if not enforced by the Devil himself. The septuagenarian Loomis died of natural causes in his comfortable bedchamber and office. His distinguished career as a medical doctor and later a psychiatrist was chronicled on the walls of his room. Key events witnessed by him or having been involved directly or indirectly were in the form of newspaper articles and hospital files.

Rob Zombie's Halloween
Loomis begs Michael to stop but he is forced to shoot him down. When he prepares to drive away with Laurie, Michael revives and grabs her again. Loomis again tries to reason with him. Michael lets Laurie go and begins to crush Loomis' head. He is last seen being dragged in the house, apparently dead, before Laurie kills Michael.

Its Hollywood, of course. How else could you make an immortalized horror series without the main protagonist (Laurie to me is just fodder because Dr. Loomis knows Michael Myers better than anyone else). Also, it could be vary possible at that scene that, when he lights his lighter, he was standing by a door and the explosion could have knocked clear out of that room before he was incinerated. Thats my best reasoning. :)
