I once saw a guy who was drunk just creaming a craps table. The casino was in full panic mode as this guy kept tossing 5 or 10 grand down and he was up about $400,000 at one point. The crowd around the table was chanting "break the bank, break the bank." An hour later I saw him again. He was down to about $1,000 in chips and the crowd was gone. He was not happy...

There was a disabled veteran from Washington State who hit a quarter million slot prize at Circus Circus in 1983. He had a form of hepatitis which was going to prove fatal in a year or less. Following his win, he brought friends down, moved into a series of high roller suites on the Strip and threw a farewell party to end all parties. He then went to Catholic Charities on South Main Street in the City of Las Vegas and borrowed money to pay his Greyhound ticket home. Since he was terminal, he told the IRS to go fetch it for their cut.
Shortly after, the casinos started deducting the IRS' cut before handing over the rest of the winnings and it's been the rule ever since.

Yes I did. About 4 years ago I was with 3 friends at the Tropicana. None of us had any luck that day, until dinnertime. As we sat at the buffet, one of my buds gets up and in his drunken state, excuses himself and returns 15 minutes later smiling ear to ear. He was so happy that he did it again; gone for 30 minutes. Unknown to me and our other buddy, Bud #1 was playing roulette and made over $18k! By the time we figured out what he was doing, he had lost ALL of it back playing roulette with max hands $1k - $2k per hand! We actually tried to intervene and save his last $1k but, as we dragged him toward the door, he put it on a table and the dealer said "No more bets" despite our protests. He lost. All $18k! We berated him for days and he never won again during that trip. We (me and Bud # 2) won big a craps and RAN with the $$$ immediately after the big win. Life lesson learned. Although Bud # 1, still claims that it wasn't about the money, it was the thrill of the play and being able to bet maximum hands at the tables! Lunatic. Needless to say, we watch him like a hawk every time. Since then he's hit for $4k on the Wheel of mis-Fortune slots and small wins & losses here and there. I've hit them for $5k. Bud # 2 not so much. Nuff said.
The moral of the story is bet wisely and don't get drunk! And - Friends don't let friends, go broke!
