If it weren't for CC, there would be no Poison. He had/has very good guitar chops and his solos are very melodic and ripping. I've been playing 15 years, and I think he's good. Sure, he was a wanker in a lot of ways, coke-head, etc. Played those obnoxious neon green BC Rich guitars and would butcher a lot of the solos live, but, the studio stuff was pretty good, their first 3 albums.

I'll agree with you up to "Open Up...." After that, he started to slide downhill.... And of course, there was that infamous appearance at the VMAs....

Nowadays, he's not worth the plastic the CDs are made from - at least as a person. I met him a couple of years ago and he was SO obnoxious, so I guess that clouded my perception of him as a player as well... (Never mind that Poison is one of my all-time favorite bands, and in all those years, I've missed less than 5 tours.)

C.C. Deville is an awesome guitarists, I would out him up there with KK Downing(Judas Priest) anyday. My favorite Poison song is "Nothin But A Good Time".C.C shines in that song, and pretty much every song.

As much as I cannot Stand all 80s hair metal, I'd grudgingly admit, that I'm sure many were/are capable players. But the fact that they may be underrated is their own fault.
That whole scene imploded on itself. By around 1990, there were WAY too many hair metal acts so they all got lost in the shuffle....

I've never listened to Poison before, but a lot of hard rock and heavy metal guitarists are underrated. They're pretty much overshadowed by overrated ones or ones that really are great and have been influential.
