Probably the same reason theres no word I can think of that rhymes with orange. Gerble is the closest to purple I can think of lol.

You may not have head any of Roger Miller's songs since he has been dead for a few years now. One of his song was "King of the Road". At any rate he had a song that had a verse in it where it said maple "surple". I know this is slang but it rhymes with "purple"
