OMG..I remember this routine from the Abbot and Costello TV show from the early 50's...hilarious at the time...and it was a great display of how ambiguous pronouns can be...should be used as an English requirement for use of pronouns.
Trivia: did you know that Costellos child died on a Sunday afternoon when this show was shown live on tv, Sunday evenings...he was shattered. and yet, he appeared that night, in full form, fully as talented a banana as is always was....the show must go on was his motto, regardless of his overwhelming grief? He all but collapsed after the show, but that show went on and no one was the wiser! He was a true trooper who's audience came before his own emotional needs..I have always admired both he and Abbot, for they were best friends, worked their own comedy routines, and always had the best routines for their day. In fact, they laid so much ground work for comeidians that followed...Old vaudvillians to the end, they were wonderful and their routines were not all slapstick. costello could say more with just his face than most can with a full vocabulary. Yes, there was a time when talent ruled the stage and airwaves...not so much today, but every so often, we see a glimmer. The Closer and Saving Grace are two of the best shows on TV..both headed by exceptionally talented women actors from film.

I once won dinner for two by reciting all of he names of the players on Abbot and Costello's fake baseball team from memory. BTW, the latest example had his contract purchase by the L.A. Dodgers from their Triple-A farm team here in Las Vegas. We had some fun with this player from Taiwan this season when he arrived from Double-A Jacksonville. Q: Who's on First? A: No. Hu's at shortstop. LOL!
