One of the biggest features of Vista is the Aero interface, which you do not get with Home Basic. There are several other bells and whistles you miss out on with Home Basic. If your hardware can handle it, definately go with Home Premium, else you might as well just stay with XP.

Well lets look at it from your point of veiw.
1. what is your sytstem ready to hande if it has 1 gig or less ram then it would be basic but if you have 2 gigs or plan on upgrading to 2 gigs then prem.
Now for your processor if it is say 2.6 intel then go basic if it is higher than 2.8 go prem.
Now the video card look at the card you have does it have 128mb ram on it or is it part of your motherboard if it is go basic but if you have at least a 256mb / 8 times agp or higher go prem.
As for hard drive you want at least 80 gig or higher for premimum any less go basic. Now for the media center part if you have a tv tuner card go with premium if not basic is fine, you just have to remember that media center is almost useless without a tv tuner card.
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY: Follow the below link to look thru the different features of each of them and if you are planning on using it on the computer you are on now do a scan of it just download the vista advisor and see what it says.
From personal experiance i use Vista 64 bit premium and i love it. After i formatted with windows the only driver i really needed to get was the dual core amd driver and optimizer. All my motherboard ( Lan drivers, USB drivers, IDE drivers,Pci drivers ) ( All drivers were loaded by vista even video card drivers for crossfire and Audigy 2 sound drivers) were loaded.
Was so easy compared to xp where after you format you have to pop in the motherboard cd and load drivers then go to video card site and load drivers then go to creative site and load drivers.
So in finishing it is your choice dont be scared of it either way just make sure your hardware can run it.

almost all Computer vendors right now are doing free upgrades from Basic to Home Premium...
Anyway, its worth it. Basic feels more like a glitched-out version of XP and not much else.

YES!
Home Premium is worth it just because it's visually amazing! Everything looks awesome! But I suppose if your computer can't handle it, don't get it.
