My husband and I are retired and moving to WA soon.
Can anyone tell us where a good location would be for older people, yet within a moderate driving distance to parks, movies, restaurants, malls, bookstores etc.?
We are finished raising our children, so we prefer not to live in a young, baby-boomer location.
Thanks for your help!
Chris

The retirement capitals of Washington are Sequim and Anacortes. Here's some information on why:

My husband and I are retired, and we live in Vancouver, Wash. I believe it's a bit more affordable to live in our city,
than further north near Seattle. We are just across the river
from Portland,Oregon and many consider Vancouver, a
bedroom community of Portland. We have all that we need
right here, and if we want more, we go to Portland and just
find more of the same. We have parks, and we have Vancouver Mall, movie theatre complexes, and Barnes and
Noble. In Portland is the largest bookstore in the Northwest,
at Powells, in downtown Portland. We also have forest parks
and rivers running through them within a short drive.
Portland may have a larger amount of restaurants than in Vancouver and a couple of antique rows for browsing, but for the most part, we've got what makes a couple happy right here. And we are centralized to go in any direction to find sights to see. Whether it's the coastline, or the mountain retreats, or even to central Oregon to the resort area of Bend, and Sisters, Oregon for what they offer (skiing being one). There's a feeling of small town living here, and you won't find any towering buildings. It has a more rural feeling and there are also really rural areas close for living too. We like the fresh air, the more affordable living and that we are close to Portland, if we should want anything on a larger scale.

Edmonds, Washington is a small town that is just north of Seattle. It has ferry service to Whidbey Island, and attracts a lot of visitors. There is a main street with shops restaurants, movie theater, etc. Beautiful beach. Lots of folk that are retired live here.
