Mel (below) Very possible. I'm totally against trotting wounded vets on both sides of the debate across prime time TV commercials to sway opinion? It's simply wrong in my view and that of many others.

iraeblood (below) There is a HUGE difference between speaking out at rallies and running paid commercials which cost millions to produce and air.

Personally, I think Neo-cons are ruled by fear, and it's the only tool they have that ever really worked to get the country behind them.

And, sadder, they don't even see exactly what is wrong with it. For proof, check some of the previous answers.

BTW electing government officials who are scared from war is not the same as trotting one out for a television commercial.

The vet says "they attacked us on 9/11". What? Iraq attacked US on 9/11??

Ari Fleischer, President Bush’s former press secretary, is now a spokesman for the Freedom's Watch, a new group of prominent conservatives behind the $15 million ad campaign . Mr. Fleischer said the central message of Freedom’s Watch is that “the war in Iraq can be won and Congress must not surrender.” The ads will run as Congress is awaiting the Sept. 15 release of a report from Gen. David Petraeus that will evaluate progress in Iraq. Too bad he couldn't even remember the soldier's name when asked on Hardball.

Lucky for them they had enough lead time on the content of the report to create the ads and get them on the air beginning on Aug.22. Just in time to 'remind' members of Congress returning from vacation. Oddly enough though, MSNBC and CNBC refused to run the ads; FOX and CNN had no such qualms about taking some of that $15 million.

Goodness, we do the same with poor and needy families. We're the party that's expert with three things: freedom, helping those in need, and equality.

We use ads all the time exploiting images of the oppressed, the poor, the downtrodden, because we specialize in that, and in times of peace, if they don't simply see us as "Anti-Republicans", they vote "Democratic" for this reason.

Why wouldn't the Republicans advertise based on their area of expertise? The fact that anyone even started this argument (wasn't you, bless your posts) was silly to begin with. Handicaps all of us from expressing ourselves and as a Democrat there is NO WAY I'm going to start arguing to restrict ANYONE'S free speech, even "around the edges", unless they are using playground tactics (even then I'll tell them to keep speaking up).

It is more telling that you give so little consideration to the vet's and the families of the fallen. They have paid a much higher price for the freedom of speech then most. You don't agree with them so they are being used, but there have been many commercials, documentaries and statements from vet's and families that oppose the war, because you agree with them they are speaking of their own convictions not being used.

Yes, the Dems did use Michael J Fox on TV...shakin reallllly hard. I respect that man, but questioned if he put on a show to attain sympathetic votes for the stem cell progression.

Anyone in a commercial, Dem or Rep or whatever, is on that commercial promoting what they want or believe in....it is up to the viewer to determine if they want the same thing(s).

Yes. It is exploitation of the most despicable kind. And, believe me you haven't seen anything yet. Today the top Gen. in Iraq, CheneyBush hand picked military handpuppet is set to do the GOP what he thinks is a favor by bringing home 30K troops in July 2008, just in time for the GOP Presidential Convention. What a COINCIDENCE~\

These people have no conscience and no moral values at all.

I agree. That is a bit weird.

But no weirder than the left using war vets and paraplegics as "elected officials" that nobody is supposed to disagree with, simply because they are just that. A veteran.
I'd call that exploitation along with coercion.
Disagree with them one time and the left instantly labels the disagree'er as a no feeling, unpatriotic, self centered neocon.

Now thats funny. I got a thumbs down for speaking the truth? Kinda like what the libs did to Patraeus today before he even uttered a word.

9-11 wasn't just a tragic accident. Many may think of it that way. Demogogery and politics go hand in hand.

Not as bad as trotting out Max Cleland in 2004. At least this guy did not frag himself to get his war wounds.

The republicans have no shame, they use religion, the dissabled, and our abused troops as propaganda for their cause. I believe this is just a small taste of what's to come next year. They will use every little lie and dirty trick to attempt a win in 08. We mustn't let them succeed!
