i take it as the puppy is having formula that your hand rearing it for some reason....a puppy is ready to leave its mother from 6-8 weeks and they are on meaty food then but just a little they cant only have dry food if it is specially for puppys other wise its hurts their baby teeth look on the packet before you buy it it will usually say from what age

about 4 weeks to start but keep giving it formula to at least 6 weeks. try offering it puppy food a few weeks ahead of time. but you cant take a puppy away from it mother until at least 6bweeks of age for that purpose- good for you for taking good care of it lucky pupp
**** let it sit on water first so it is soft enough for the to chew

At 8 weeks you can give them softened food.
