I have tried telling him that if the egg splits or if 2 eggs are released at the same time and fertilized by 2 different sperm then there will be twins. Whose right?

You are correct, not your husband. Once the sperm penetrates the egg, a chemical reaction occurs & no other sperm can enter the egg. Multiples are caused by mother releasing 2 or more eggs (fraternal) or the 1 fertilized egg splitting several times (identical). Look at it this way: a fertilized egg contains 48 chromosomes (1/2 from mom & 1/2 from dad). If there were 2 sperm to penetrate 1 egg, then the pregnancy wouldn't be viable anyway- nature made it so that only one sperm could fertilize 1 egg.

You are right, only 1 sperm can enter the egg. A shield of sorts is put up as soon as the sperm enters the egg so that no more can enter. Identical twins are from an egg spilting into 2, creating 2 copies of the egg. This is why their DNA is identical. If it was caused by 2 sperms, then they wouldn't be identical because each sperm is diferent from all the others. Fraternal twins are from 2 eggs getting fertilized.

You are right. Two sperm cannot enter one egg. As soon as one sperm gets in, the outer part of the egg hardens so that no other sperm can enter. If more than one sperm could enter the egg you would have a child with more than the necessary 46 chromosomes and the baby would not make it.

I am the father of boy/girl twins. Fraternal twins are from two ovum be fertilised while identical twins come from a fertilised ovum that splits during the initial cell division. At the time of fertilisation there is a chemical release the repels the other sperm attempting to complete fertilisation. In the event that two sperm manage to enter the ovum at the same time, the process of fertilisation either is halted or the sperm that has a stronger gene will complete the fertilisation. All in all, you are right.

A chemical is released once an egg is penetrated by a SINGEL sperm that does not allwo another to do so. Fraternal twins are caused by TWO eggs being fertilized by TWO sperm. Identical twins by a SINGLE egg/sperm pair splitting in two. YOU are correct.

If more than one sperm can enter the egg and if the shield doen not close itself after one sperm enter and accept more than one sperm, most of us in the worls have multiple then. Haha. By the way, i think i read it somewhere that even one sperm can fertilized two eggs. I think.

as far as i know only one sperm enters the egg.
as soon as the sperm enters and the tails breaks off the outter part of the egg hardens not allowing any other sperm to break through.
then if it splits it makes identical twins.
if to eggs are released then you get the faternail twins.
two eggs two sperm theat is way they tend to look different.

lol you're right. Men always have another funny side, and think they are right..BUT if more than one sperm enter an egg at the SAME EXACT TIME they will ferilizze the egg and therfore you'll be pregnant with twins+

to add a note too, in identical twin they share one placenta, which indicates one egg, but has divided itself in two. thus 2 babies.
fraternal is 2 eggs and 2 sperm with having their own placenta each.

Hmmm...I was of the impression that two sperms cause the egg to split for an identical twin...love to know the answer for sure.
