This is my third pregnancy. With my second baby, I was spitting all the time. With this baby, its the same. My doctor said it was normal but I have never seen another pregnant woman that has to spit all the time. I just can't help it.

I've read in a few different books and on websites that it's common to have an increase in saliva during pregnancy. So I'd say it's perfectly normal.

Is is normal. I had it with all of my first three pregnancies. I actually had a spit cup next to me. It was so gross! My best friend was pregnant at the same time and she was having the same thing.

I have no idea why the pregnancy hormones make you produce excess saliva, but I know how annoying it can be and it can aggravate morning sickness.

Thank goodness I did NOT have the symptom this time - with my 4th pregnancy.

It will go away after the first trimester.

Most women experience excessive salivation as a result of changing hormone levels. Excessive saliva may happen sporadically during periods of rapid hormonal fluctuation like during the first and third trimesters. Other women will notice they have more saliva in general throughout their pregnancy. Your best bet is to swallow more frequently. Most women do so naturally.

Some women find excessive salivation contributes to pregnancy heartburn. Fortunately you can relieve pregnancy related heartburn using simple over the counter antacids. Some women find drinking milk helps relieve the problem. Still others find brushing their teeth multiple times each day helps relieve their symptoms, or at the very least makes the problem seem less annoying. You may find drinking more water improves rather than worsens the condition. Your body may produce more saliva in response to dehydration. Still other women find chewing gum or sucking hard candies helpful for at least taking their mind off the problem.

I wouldn't say that I have to spit, but I do drool a lot at night (and I didn't before I was pregnant). It's really irritating. I think that excess saliva is normal, although annoying.

Your doctor is right, it is totally normal to spit when you are pregnant. Usually after your third or fourth baby this symptom will not occur.

I would say it's normal. I know when I feel queasy which is like 25 hours a day I have extra saliva in my mouth. At least you know that you and your baby are not dehydrated.

Some women get dry mouth, which causes them to spit.

Yes, I have read and heard that excess saliva is a normal part of pregnancy, as well as excess mucas and bodily fluids in general.
